Expert Review of the Working Group III Contribution to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, Climate Change 2021: Mitigation of Climate Change  (published 9 January 2020)

IAPSO invites its community to  participate in the expert review of the AR6 Working Group III FOD. The expert review of the FOD starts on 13 January 2020, and ends on 8 March 2020, 23:59 (GMT +1), and is an expert review only.

All those previously nominated for any role in the Working Group III contribution to the AR6, by governments and observer organizations, but not selected, will be informed separately by the IPCC Secretariat.

Summer School on "Physics of the Ocean", 12-17 July 2020 in Bad Honnef, Germany (published 19 December 2019) 

Organized by Martin Visbeck (GEOMAR & Kiel University, Germany), Sabrina Speich (Ecole Normale Supérieure - PSL, France) and David Marshall (Oxford University, UK) and run by the Bad Honnef Physics school supported by the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus-Foundation.

The Ocean Physics Summer School aims at providing a broader view of the ocean system from a physical perspective, encompassing a large range of scales and their interactions. 

Young scientists - advanced master students, graduate students and first year postdocs - from all over Europe and beyond from all fields with an interest in physics who want to increase their knowledge about the ocean can apply for participation.

IAPSO is issuing a Call for Best Practice Study Groups. Up to US$10,000 is available to assist in bringing together experts with a view to reaching agreement about improved ways of analysing data, or otherwise improving the way we conduct oceanographic research.  Eugene LaFond Medal 2019 (published: 6 August, 2019)

The 2019 Eugene LaFond Medal is awarded to Mr. Rohith Balakrishnan from India for his oral presentation "Indian Basin-wide sea level coherency in the tropical Indian Ocean driven by Madden-Julian oscillations". This was delivered on July 11, 2019 within the IAG-IAPSO joint symposium 'Monitoring Sea Level Changes by Satellite and In-Situ Measurements' during the IUGG 2019 General Assembly in Montreal, Canada.
