Walter H. Munk (October 19, 1917 – February 8, 2019)
It is with deep sadness that IAPSO announces the death of Walter H. Munk from pneumonia on Friday, 8th February, 2019 at his home in La Jolla, California. He was 101.
Prince Albert I Medal recipient 2019 (published: 2 February, 2019)
Dr. Corinne Le Quéré, FRS, Professor of Climate Change Science at the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom, and Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research (2011-2018), is the Prince Albert I Medal recipient 2019. Read more
The Award ceremony will take place on July 12, 2019, at the IUGG 2019 General Assembly, during which Dr. Le Quéré will deliver the Albert I Memorial Lecture.
IAPSO Early Career Scientist Medal 2019 (updated: 2 February, 2019)
The call for nominations closed on 31 January, 2019. There have been 12 nominations and the ECS Award Committee will publish the winner(s) by 1 March, 2019. Read more
The award ceremony will take place during the IUGG 2019, on Friday July 12, when the recipient(s) will deliver a presentation on a scientific topic of their choice.
Eugene LaFond Medal 2019 (published: 2 February, 2019)
The Eugene LaFond Medal 2019 will be awarded to an ocean scientist from a developing country making a presentation (poster or oral) during an IAPSO-sponsored or co-sponsored symposium at the IUGG 2019 General Assembly. Prospective candidates are invited to identify their presentation as being eligible for the LaFond Medal. This is done by sending an email, including a brief CV describing their education and research activities, to the This email address is being protected from spambots. Please specify in the email the title of the presentation and the symposium in which it will be presented, and in what form (oral or poster).
